Nikolaij Medtner - Sonate Op. 53 No. 1

Das wird hier langsam zum Medtner-Fanblog, aber die Schätze, die man bei YouTube finden kann, sind schon außerordentlich. Wie zum Beispiel der folgende Ausschnitt aus einem Film mit Marc-André Hamelin, einem der wichtigsten Medtner-Interpreten. Hamelin formuliert treffend, was viele Medtner-Kenner sagen - dass Medtners Musik sich oft nicht schon beim ersten Hören erschließt, aber ab dem zweiten, spätestens dritten geduldigen Zuhören eine musikalische Welt vor dem Hörer ausbreitet, der er sich dann nicht mehr entziehen kann und von der er nicht mehr genug bekommt:

An alloy of intensest of emotions and sounds, of the most subtly variegated rhythmic life, it can, it's true, often overcome one's ability to perceive at first hearing, it can overload the circuity of our mind.
